Mario Kart Tour is live, giving all non-Switch owners an opportunity to race with their favorite characters wherever they are, as well as the opportunity to spend a bunch of money to raise their chances of racing with any one particular character. Mostly this thing is very straightforward, but there are aspects of the game that you might not understand right away. In particular, people seem to be getting hung up on a challenge that asks them to “take out three pipes”. Let’s head on into a guide for completing that challenge, then.

To take out a pipe, first you’ll need a pipe. They don’t show up on all courses, so the best place to get one is going to be a Mario Circuit level. Load into one of those. This is going to be an item-based challenge, so choose whichever racer you have that gets the most items per block, ideally 3. Bowser is particularly handy because he gets a big shell.
Now you’re going to need some heavy machineryMORE ON THIS TOPIC FROM FORBESHere Are All The ‘Fortnite’ Season 9 Map Changes: Neo Tilted, Mega Mall, Sky Platforms And More5 Best Earbuds Under $20 Of 2019 to take it down. A regular boost or shell won’t do it: you’ll need a giant mushroom or a Bowser shell. I don’t have Bowser, so I did it with the giant mushroom. As any seasoned Mario Kart player knows, you get better items the further back you are in a race, so you’re going to want to underperform. This is actually easier said than done: the auto accelerate means that you can’t just brake and let everyone else take lead, so the best I could do was to just sort of ram into the wall for as long as I could to ensure that I slowed down enough for everyone to pass me. Try to get all the way back to 8th place to increase your odds.
Again, you’re looking for either a giant mushroom or a bowser shell. So once you get one, just position yourself near a pipe and let the item fly: probably a little easier with the mushroom than the bowser shell, but either will get the job done. Take three out to complete the challenge.
So far, Mario Kart Tour is fine, but unlikely to dominate the market in a meaningful way. Like so many of Nintendo’s mobile offerings, it feels like it could have been the crown jewel of the app store in, say, 2011, but the entire sphere of mobile development has matured so much that the biggest thing the game has going for it is its license, which is a deeply un-Nintendo position to be in.
