How to Wear a Surgical Mask – Properly

Proper Way to Wear Surgical Mask

Whether you’re concerned about personal protection from germs while in public or you’re performing open-heart surgery next week, a surgical mask helps protect you from outside contamination and vice versa. There are pre-fabricated surgical masks, but sometimes it’s more fun to make your own. Constructing your own surgical mask can also be a good idea if you’re making a doctor costume for Halloween and you need a durable mask. Best of all, a mask you make yourself can be customized to fit your own face.

Make a pattern for your surgical masks. Get a piece of paper and cut out a rough surgical mask shape. Hold it up to your own face and look in the mirror. Is it too big or small? Does it extend too close to your eyes or down below your chin? Keep trimming away paper until you have the shape you want. This is now the pattern for your surgical masks. If you’re planning on making lots of masks, transfer the paper pattern to sturdy cardboard.

Put your pattern over some soft, thick fabric. Draw the pattern onto the fabric as many times as necessary to make the number of masks you need. Leave a little extra to account for any mistakes you might make. After all, you can always trim the fabric a little, but you can’t put any back.

Cut 1/2-inch strips of the fabric. Fold these in half and sew them around the edges of your masks to make the edge strong and keep them looking even. These also make the seal a little stronger to keep your breath from spreading too much.

Attach elastic strips to the surgical masks so you can loop them around your ears, securing the surgical mask in place. You have many options. You can get small cords of elastic and run them through the top and bottom seams of the masks. You can simply sew the lengths of elastic cable to the masks at the top and bottom of the sides, making ear loops.

Try on the first surgical mask you make to ensure you’re on the right track. Make adjustments to the length of elastic for a tighter or looser fit. This is also an opportunity to see how the mask looks in use. If the elastic pulls the mask too close to your eyes, trim the next mask a little bit to see if you get a better fit.

The Vaping e-cigarettes Banned From Trump

Trump moves to ban flavored e-cigarettes

Trump administration officials, alarmed by new data showing a huge jump in vaping by young people, said they are moving to ban most flavored e-cigarettes, a major development that could result in sweeping changes in the sprawling market.

In an Oval Office meeting Wednesday that included first lady Melania Trump, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and acting Food and Drug Administration commissioner Norman E. “Ned” Sharpless, President Trump said: “We can’t allow people to get sick. And we can’t have our youth be so affected.” He added that the first lady, who Tuesday tweeted a warning about vaping, feels “very, very strongly” about the issue because of their 13-year-old son, Barron.

The administration’s move comes as health officials across the country investigate more than 450 cases, including six deaths, of lung disease linked to vaping. Many patients have reported using cannabis-related products, but authorities have not ruled out any specific type of vaping. With the picture still murky, critics have seized the moment to press for tougher regulation of conventional e-cigarettes, which come in sweet and fruity flavors that have been favored by many young people.

Donald Trump ban flavoured vaping because ‘people are dying’

Donald Trump has moved to ban flavours used in e-cigarettes following a series of deaths linked to vaping. Across the United States, six people have died and more than 450 have fallen ill in recent months, with symptoms including breathing difficulty and chest pain.

Several teenagers have been placed in medically induced comas. No single vaping device, ingredient or additive has been identified as the cause.

Mr Trump said: “Vaping has become very big business, giant, in a short period of time. We can’t have our youth be so affected. People are dying from vaping so were looking at it very closely. People are going to watch what we’re saying and parents are going to be a lot tougher with respect to their children.”

He added: “People say vaping is wonderful. It’s really not wonderful, that’s one thing we can say definitely. We may well have to do something strong about it.”

Mr Trump said his wife Melania, the first lady, had been involved in discussions about vaping because “she’s got a son, she feels very strongly about it.”

Alex Azar, the health secretary, whose department oversees the Food and Drug Administration, which in turn regulates, e-cigarettes, said guidelines would be developed to remove all flavours from the market, especially those attractive to children.

But there is little evidence that e-cigarettes are effective for helping smokers quit. They are also hugely popular among adolescents, who makers have targeted with fruit and candy flavourings.

Around 3.6 million US school pupils used vaping products in 2018, an increase of 1.5 million from the year before. The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has urged people to cease vaping while investigations into deaths and illnesses are underway.

A spokeswoman for the American Lung Association said: “We’ve been sounding the alarm for a long time and are so grateful to hear the president’s announcement. “The only reason these flavours are out there is to attract kids and make the poison go down more easily.”

Second Degree Burn Pictures Treatment & Symptoms

Burn levels

There are three primary types of burns: first-, second-, and third-degree. Each degree is based on the severity of damage to the skin, with first-degree being the most minor and third-degree being the most severe. Damage includes:

  • first-degree burns: red, nonblistered skin
  • second-degree burns: blisters and some thickening of the skin
  • third-degree burns: widespread thickness with a white, leathery appearance

There are also fourth-degree burns. This type of burn includes all of the symptoms of a third-degree burn and also extends beyond the skin into tendons and bones.

Burns have a variety of causes, including:

The type of burn is not based on the cause of it. Scalding, for example, can cause all three burns, depending on how hot the liquid is and how long it stays in contact with the skin.

Chemical and electrical burns warrant immediate medical attention because they can affect the inside of the body, even if skin damage is minor.

First-degree burn

First-degree burns cause minimal skin damage. They are also called “superficial burns” because they affect the outermost layer of skin. Signs of a first-degree burn include:

  • redness
  • minor inflammation, or swelling
  • pain
  • dry, peeling skin occurs as the burn heals

Since this burn affects the top layer of skin, the signs and symptoms disappear once the skin cells shed. First-degree burns usually heal within 7 to 10 days without scarring.

You should still see your doctor if the burn affects a large area of skin, more than three inches, and if it’s on your face or a major joint, which include:

  • knee
  • ankle
  • foot
  • spine
  • shoulder
  • elbow
  • forearm

First-degree burns are usually treated with home care. Healing time may be quicker the sooner you treat the burn. Treatments for a first-degree burn include:

  • soaking the wound in cool water for five minutes or longer
  • taking acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain relief
  • applying lidocaine (an anesthetic) with aloe vera gel or cream to soothe the skin
  • using an antibiotic ointment and loose gauze to protect the affected area

Make sure you don’t use ice, as this may make the damage worse. Never apply cotton balls to a burn because the small fibers can stick to the injury and increase the risk of infection. Also, avoid home remedies like butter and eggs as these are not proven to be effective.

Second-degree burn

Second-degree burns are more serious because the damage extends beyond the top layer of skin. This type burn causes the skin to blister and become extremely red and sore.

Some blisters pop open, giving the burn a wet or weeping appearance. Over time, thick, soft, scab-like tissue called fibrinous exudate may develop over the wound.

Due to the delicate nature of these wounds, keeping the area clean and bandaging it properly is required to prevent infection. This also helps the burn heal quicker.

Some second-degree burns take longer than three weeks to heal, but most heal within two to three weeks without scarring, but often with pigment changes to the skin.

The worse the blisters are, the longer the burn will take to heal. In some severe cases, skin grafting is required to fix the damage. Skin grafting takes healthy skin from another area of the body and moves it to the site of the burned skin.

As with first-degree burns, avoid cotton balls and questionable home remedies. Treatments for a mild second-degree burn generally include:

  • running the skin under cool water for 15 minutes or longer
  • taking over-the-counter pain medication (acetaminophen or ibuprofen)
  • applying antibiotic cream to blisters

However, seek emergency medical treatment if the burn affects a widespread area, such as any of the following:

  • face
  • hands
  • buttocks
  • groin
  • feet

Third-degree burn

Excluding fourth-degree burns, third-degree burns are the most severe. They cause the most damage, extending through every layer of skin.

There is a misconception that third-degree burns are the most painful. However, with this type of burn the damage is so extensive that there may not be any pain because of nerve damage.

Depending on the cause, the symptoms third-degree burns can exhibit include:

  • waxy and white color
  • char
  • dark brown color
  • raised and leathery texture
  • blisters that do not develop

Without surgery, these wounds heal with severe scarring and contracture. There is no set timeline for complete spontaneous healing for third-degree burns.

Never attempt to self-treat a third-degree burn. Call 911 immediately. While you’re waiting for medical treatment, raise the injury above your heart. Don’t get undressed, but make sure no clothing is stuck to the burn.

Complications

Compared with first- and second-degree burns, third-degree burns carry the most risk for complications, such as infections, blood loss, and shock, which is often what could lead to death. At the same time, all burns carry the risk of infections because bacteria can enter broken skin.

Tetanus is another possible complication with burns of all levels. Like sepsis, tetanus is a bacterial infection. It affects the nervous system, eventually leading to problems with muscle contractions. As a rule of thumb, every member of your household should receive updated tetanus shots every 10 years to prevent this type of infection.

Severe burns also carry the risk of hypothermia and hypovolemia. Dangerously low body temperatures characterize hypothermia. While this may seem like an unexpected complication of a burn, the condition is actually prompted by excessive loss of body heat from an injury. Hypovolemia, or low blood volume, occurs when your body loses too much blood from a burn.

Preventing all degrees of burns

The obvious best way to fight burns is to prevent them from happening. Certain jobs put you at a greater risk for burns, but the fact is that most burns happen at home. Infants and young children are the most vulnerable to burns. Preventive measures you can take at home include:

  • Keep children out of the kitchen while cooking.
  • Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove.
  • Place a fire extinguisher in or near the kitchen.
  • Test smoke detectors once a month.
  • Replace smoke detectors every 10 years.
  • Keep water heater temperature under 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Measure bath water temperature before use.
  • Lock up matches and lighters.
  • Install electrical outlet covers.
  • Check and discard electrical cords with exposed wires.
  • Keep chemicals out of reach, and wear gloves during chemical use.
  • Wear sunscreen every day, and avoid peak sunlight.
  • Ensure all smoking products are stubbed out completely.
  • Clean out dryer lint traps regularly.

It’s also important to have a fire escape plan and to practice it with your family once a month. In the event of a fire, make sure to crawl underneath smoke. This will minimize the risk of passing out and becoming trapped in a fire.

Outlook for burns

When properly and quickly treated, the outlook for first- and second-degree burns is good. These burns rarely scar but can result in a change in pigment of the skin that was burned. The key is to minimize further damage and infection. Extensive damage from severe second-degree and third-degree burns can lead to problems in deep skin tissues, bones, and organs. Patients may require:

  • surgery
  • physical therapy
  • rehabilitation
  • lifelong assisted care

It’s important to gain adequate physical treatment for burns, but don’t forget to find help for your emotional needs. There are support groups available for people who have experienced severe burns, as well as certified counselors. Go online or talk to your doctor to find support groups in your area. You can also use other resources such as Burn Survivor Assistance and the Children’s Burn Foundation.

Destin Flesh Eating Bacteria 2019 Pompano Beach Girl

MOORESVILLE, Ind. — A family vacation to Florida resulted in a week in the hospital for one Indiana family. Their 12-year-old daughter Kylei contracted a life-threatening infection from the beach.

“It’s just so hard seeing friends and family on the beach having fun because we were there doing the same thing, and I almost lost her,” said Kylei’s mother Michelle Brown.

Mom says daughter contracted flesh-eating bacteria on popular Florida beach

12-year-old Indiana girl contracts flesh-eating disease during Florida vacation

Towards the end of their trip to Destin, Florida this month, Kylei began feeling pain in her leg. When the family got back to Indiana, the pain turned into swelling and then a fever. Brown called and made an appointment with her doctor, but she didn’t realize how bad the situation was until the doctor directed them to the emergency room.

“When they told me we needed to go home and pack bags and get to Riley, my anxiety went from 0 to 110,” Brown said. “I knew something was wrong.”

Brown said doctors first thought it might be a blood clot. She watched in horror as her daughters’ condition got worse.

“Her blood pressure was just continuously dropping,” Brown said. “It was rough.”

Doctors soon discovered Kylei had Necrotizing Fasciitis. She had to have surgery to help remove the infection.

“The emergency surgery was to hopefully save her leg, but more importantly, to save her life,” Brown said.

The infection is aggressive and life threatening. According to the CDC, it kills 1 out of every 3 people who get it. Prompt medical treatment is key.

“If it wasn’t for the quick responses and aggressive treatments, I wouldn’t have her,” Brown said.

The bacteria is usually contracted in water and enters through an open wound. On their trip to the beach, Kylei stuck her toes in the water, just days after scuffing her toe on a skateboard.

“It started from a scuff on her toe, a scrape on her toe, and it almost cost her her life,” Brown said.

Now finally back home, Kylei still has a needle in her arm for her antibiotics. Her leg is still wrapped, and she’s starting therapy to walk again.

“I’ve told my mom I just want to be normal again with my leg,” Kylei said.

As the family starts their long road to recovery, Brown wants other families to know the dangers and the signs. She hopes other family vacations to the beach don’t end in tragedy.

“It’s hard for me to think about if I had waited one more day, or even a couple more hours,” Brown said. “We’re just very fortunate.”

The CDC says if you have any open wounds you should avoid spending time in hot tubs, swimming pools and open water.

It’s important to keep wounds clean and covered, and if you experience symptoms of an infection, get immediate treatment.

5) Drink apple cider vinegar on an empty stomach. This simple fluid will boost your metabolism and fill your stomach like crazy, you don’t ever need to be afraid of not losing weight ever again.

14) Motivation: Lastly, the most important thing is to be motivated through entire weight loss journey. Find some inspirational quotes or pictures to keep you motivated. But remember you, yourself  should be your biggest motivation.

Why Is Diet More Important Than Exercise for Weight Loss?

Lots of people say that weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise. Even though it is kind of correct, to stay on the right track you should focus on your diet and exercise. Without diet and exercise, there is no result.

Go to the gym, or any other exercise that you should be preferably done in the morning. The reason being that after you take your daily meals, your body starts to become heavy, which will limit you from exercising to a good extent.

Morning time is the best and fresh time. You can take your protein shakes with you to the gym if you are not affected by its contents. Whey or Casein proteins are high sources of proteins derived from milk. You should also keep in mind that your protein powder is a renowned company.

15) Avoid fat burners and any kinds of steroids, They might bring you immediate effect but can surely cause you long time consequences.

16) Your breakfast should be heavy, lunch a little bit less and the dinner should be the lightest. Night time is for sleep and because there is no physical activity at rest time, so the dinner should be light.

17) Consume oats. They are rich in fiber and favor fat loss.

18) Avoid egg yolks and stuff like butter, ghee, fast foods, etc.

19) Consider exercise, if you go to the gym, you can go for sit-ups, ab crunches, squats, deadlifts, etc. for losing weight, especially your belly fat. And if you are not a student in the gym, you can go for crunches and sit-ups along with the plank exercise, some running, some jumping, etc.

Summarizing all these, the important point to note is that you should try to give at least an hour of exercise daily to lose weight quickly and safely.

Here are some diet and exercise tips to make you stay on track

Diet:

20) Have 1 cheat meal per week.  You are not going to gain all weight back if you eat 1 cheat meal per week. It is just going to remind you that there is something waiting for you.

21) Ginger is amazing for weight loss, and you can drink it as an ingredient in your daily cup of  tea or even slice it into a fruit salad.

22) Replace snacks with nuts as the are a tasty alternative for all those unhealthy snacks that you are used to eating. They fill you up quickly and have loads of healthy benefits.

23) Don’t starve yourself, if you don’t eat anything for some period of time, your body will go into starvation mode and once you start eating normally you will gain all the weight back again.

Exercise:

24) Cardio has always been known to be the best type of exercise for burning fats and calories. Exercises like running or cycling will show great results in no time.

25) Light weights If you want to tone certain parts of your body, lifting light weights will help you lose weight in places that you want.

Fat Burning Workouts : Things That Actually Work !

“Fat loss supplements are bullshit.”

It was the lede to a story I wrote back in 2008. Not the most eloquent prose, but to the point and honest. The intro was killed, the story lived on, and to this day my approach to fat loss has been about minimum effective dose:

Smart nutrition + Effective fat loss workouts + consistency and patience = fat loss

No pill, powder, or potion will strip you from body fat and have you look like a cover model.

It’s not sexy. It won’t be shared thousands of times. But you know what? It works really well. And out of all of the hundreds of clients I’ve worked with and the thousands of fat loss plans I’ve reviewed by the world’s top nutritionists, I’d say less than 5 percent even included any type of fat loss supplements.

That’s why my message, year after year, study after study, has relied on the same formula. I wasn’t really convinced that there were any fat burning pills that work.

Until I was.

Fat Loss Supplements: Separating Hype from Help

There’s no shortage of fat loss products that claim to have science on their side. You’ll see uncited studies mentioned, and the marketing hype of certain “proprietary blends” can intrigue even the harshest critic into wondering, “Maybe I should give this a try.” (I’ll admit it: Early in my career, even when skeptical I wanted to try fat burners.)

But here’s the catch: When it comes to research there’s a big difference between “statistically significant” and actually makes a difference.

Back in my research days, I used to spend my spare time picking apart the studies used by supplement companies. You know them as the claims as

“Burns up to 3x as many calories per day.”

While many supplements companies are notorious for the aforementioned BS, oftentimes those claims were true. Only the real truth was “3x the calories” was oftentimes a difference between 5 and 15 calories. It’s a 3x amplifier, but not the type of realistic impact that will leave you looking shredded.

So the equation continued with any other potential additions, despite the fact that fat loss supplements alone are a multi-billion dollar industry.

We buy what we want to believe. We give in to the hope of instant gratification. And we continue to spend money on the last thing that will actually help us shed weight.

While my stance hasn’t changed (see the above formula as the only consistent, proven approach to fat loss), my belief has softened—slightly—because science now shows some products can assist with your weight loss goals.

What Supplements Really Work for Fat Loss

When it comes to selecting a fat loss supplement remember this: None of them are magic. No pill, powder, or potion will strip you from body fat and have you look like a cover model. It just won’t happen. So go in with eyes wide open: these products are not designed to spark or create effective weight loss.

Instead, they are aids that might amplify what you are doing on the exercise and diet side. And don’t forget the part of the equation about consistency and patience; they still apply even when you spend a few extra dollars to achieve the body you want.

To understand what works (and what doesn’t for fat loss), I consulted with the team at Examine.com, home of the largest scientific-based resource for supplement information and authors of The Stack Guides. After reviewing thousands of studies, here’s what we know will work and why.

Caffeine

Caffeine has several potentially beneficial effects. It is not just a powerful stimulant, it is also a fat burner. When ingested, caffeine causes adrenaline and dopamine to be released, which improves mood, induces euphoria, and increases excitability. However, after prolonged supplementation, these effects fade and only the ability to ward off sleep remains.

Caffeine has two distinct effects that contribute to its fat burning properties. Caffeine consumption has a thermogenic effect, which means it increases heat production. Prolonged consumption of caffeine also has a lipolytic effect, meaning caffeine causes triglycerides to release fatty acids, which can then be used for fuel by the body.

Caffeine supplementation can also inhibit enzymes called phosphodiesterases(PDEs). Suppressing PDEs can increase levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in the body. Elevated cAMP levels are associated with lower triglyceride levels in fat cells, as well as improved protein synthesis in muscle cells. Moreover, if PDEs are inhibited, supplements that increase cAMP levels, like synephrine, might be even more effective at increasing heat production.

How to use it

To supplement caffeine for a prolonged period of time, take 100 – 200 mg twice a day, for a daily dose range of 200 – 400 mg. People not used to caffeine should start at the low end of the dosage range. But remember: using caffeine in the evening can disrupt sleep.

Coleus Forskholii

Coleus forskohlii is an herbal supplement that can elevate cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels, one of the molecules responsible for the feeling of stimulation from supplements like caffeine. Elevated cAMP levels are associated with lower triglyceride levels in fat cells and increased protein synthesis in muscle cells. Preliminary evidence suggests Coleus forskohlii supplementation can cause both of these effects, though there is currently no evidence that links Coleus forskohlii supplementation and muscle gain.

Coleus forskohlii can be taken alongside other supplements that increase cAMP, like caffeine, to increase their effectiveness. Coleus forskohlii supplementation should not last longer than twelve weeks. More research is needed to determine the long-term effects of Coleus forskohlii supplementation, but it’s important to mention that short-term use has been shown to be safe.

How to take it

The main bioactive compound in Coleus forskohlii is called forskolin. Most Coleus forskohlii extracts contain 10% forskolin, by weight. The standard dose for forskolin is 50 mg, taken in 25 mg doses twice a day. To supplement 25 mg of forskolin, assuming a 10% forskolin Coleus forskohlii extract, take 250 mg of extract. This comes out to 500 mg of the extract total, split up into two daily doses of 250 mg each, taken four to six hours apart.

That said, more research is needed to confirm that this is the ideal dose for Coleus forskohlii supplementation. Overweight people may experience more benefits from Coleus forskohlii supplementation than lean people.

Yohimbine

Yohimbine is a compound derived from the bark of the Pausinystalia yohimbe plant. Yohimbine supplementation makes body fat cells more susceptible to fat loss. Maybe most impressively, yohimbine is an effective fat burner for young and athletic people, which is uncommon for fat burners.

It is also said to help burn ‘stubborn fat’, like love handles, because the receptors it acts on are found in higher levels around the oblique muscles. Like the other supplements, more research is needed to actually confirm this effect.

Though it is effective, yohimbine cannot be used effectively for long periods of time. That’s because excessive yohimbine doses can cause elevated heart rate and anxiety. People with anxiety should be cautious when supplementing yohimbine, since even the regular dose can exacerbate pre-existing conditions.

Yohimbine can act as a powerful fat burner, but it must be used carefully, especially when combined with other stimulants. Yohimbine should not be used by people not accustomed to stimulants. Yohimbine is recommended for supplementation over the bark of Pausinystalia yohimbe itself, since the isolated compound has fewer side effects than the bark.

How to take it

Yohimbine is dosed differently depending on if it is supplemented by itself or as part of a stack. The typical yohimbine dosage range, as part of a stack, is 2.5 – 7.5 mg (250 – 750 mcg), taken twice a day for a total daily dose of 5 – 15 mg. It is strongly recommended to start at the low end of the range before supplementing higher doses.

Rauwolscine is a compound with a similar structure and function as yohimbine. Rauwolscine may provide the same effects as yohimbine and can be seen as an alternative, but it has only preliminary evidence for its effects and should be supplemented with caution.

Note: People with anxiety disorders should be especially careful when supplementing yohimbine, as it can exacerbate pre-existing symptoms of anxiety.

Creating the Perfect Supplement Plan

While any of these products could work well individually, it’s essential that you don’t carelessly combine products together. The blind mixing of any supplements—and especially those in the fat loss category—is extremely dangerous.

Not to mention, you have to consider potential interactions with other medications you might be using. Every effective fat burner can interact negatively with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), a kind of antidepressant, meaning you should not combine if on those medications.

If you want to learn more about what works for fat loss, as well as how to create the perfect combination of supplements, the answers can be found in Stack Guides. 3. Eat Fiber – Fat Burning Workout

Eat more fiber! You may have heard about the importance of including fiber in developing and maintaining a balanced diet, but what you may not be aware of is just how powerful of a dietary component it can be for total body health and wellness.

What is Fiber?

Fiber, also referred to as roughage or bulk, is the indigestible part of plant foods that pushes through your digestive system. As fiber passes through the stomach and intestines, it absorbs water and eases bowel movements. There are two types of dietary fibers: soluble (removes bodily waste and toxins) and insoluble (prevents harmful absorption of substances in body). Both are equally important to a balanced diet and can be found together, but rarely in equal portions, in all plant-based foods.

4. Drink Cinnamon Tea

The level of sugar in the blood usually has a direct impact on body weight due to its impact on levels of hunger and energy. When blood sugar levels are balanced, it is not likely that an individual will have a large appetite. Further, the body’s metabolism in such a case will shift into the use of fat as a source of energy instead of converting foods into fat. Cinnamon tea is an effective remedy in balancing blood sugar.

5. Drink Proteins For Fat Burning Workout

Contrary to what one would expect, proteins have the potential to be an effective remedy for weight loss. The body’s metabolism switches to overdrive when digesting and breaking down protein. Essentially, the body tends to burn calories faster. Therefore, high protein diets increase the rate of metabolism by up to 80 to 100 calories a day. Additionally, high protein diets evoke the feeling of fullness thus leading to a decrease in appetite.

6. Drink Green Tea

Green tea is considered a weight loss remedy due to its components catechins, theanine, and caffeine. Catechins are antioxidants known to help to lower lipid absorption in the gut. Further, theanine is an amino acid responsible for the stimulation of production of dopamine, a compound known to invoke feelings of happiness. For individuals who binge on food in times of stress, this compound offers the perfect counterbalance to curb overeating.

Conclusion

The 8 Advantages of Drinking Hot Water

Drinking enough water can support skin, muscle, and joint health. Water helps the body’s cells absorb nutrients and fight infections. Drinking a few glasses of warm or hot water each day might offer even more benefits.

Although there is little scientific research on the benefits of drinking hot water, alternative health advocates argue that hot water is an easy way to improve health. In this article, we look at the evidence.

Advantages

While drinking water of any temperature can support overall wellbeing, drinking hot water is thought to provide a range of additional health benefits.

People have consumed hot drinks for thousands of years. Folk medical literature is filled with stories of how hot water can improve health, but researchers have only just begun to look into the benefits of drinking hot water.

This article looks at eight of the potential benefits and the theories behind them.

1. Healthier digestion

Hot water is said to be an easy way to improve health.

When a person does not drink enough water, the small intestine absorbs most of the water consumed through food and drinking. This causes dehydration and can make it more difficult to have a bowel movement.

Chronic dehydration can cause corresponding chronic constipation. This constipation can make bowel movements painful and may cause other problems, including hemorrhoids and bloating.

Drinking hot water helps to break down food faster than drinking cold or warm water. It reduces the risk of constipation by supporting regular bowel movements.

2. Body detoxification

Natural health advocates argue that hot water might help the body detoxify. When water is hot enough to raise a person’s body temperature, it can cause sweating. Sweating expels toxins and can help clean the pores.

3. Improved circulation

Hot water is a vasodilator, meaning it expands the blood vessels, improving circulation. This can help muscles relax and reduce pain.

Although no studies have directly linked hot water to sustained improvements in circulation, even brief improvements in circulation can support better blood flow to muscles and organs.Green tea: Health benefits, side effects, and researchRecent studies have shown that green tea may have positive effects on a variety of health concerns, including weight loss, type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease.READ NOW

4. Weight loss

Research has long supported the idea that drinking more water can help a person lose weight. This may partially be because drinking water increases feelings of fullness. Water also helps the body absorb nutrients, and it flushes out waste.

A study published in 2003 found that switching from drinking cold water to hot water could increase weight loss. Researchers found that drinking 500 ml of water before a meal increased metabolism by 30 percent.

Raising water temperature to 98.6 degrees accounted for 40 percent of the increase in metabolism. This metabolic step-up lasted for 30-40 minutes, following water consumption.

5. Reduced pain

Hot water improves circulation and may also improve blood flow, particularly to injured muscles. No research has directly linked hot water consumption to pain relief.

However, people routinely use heat packs and hot water bottles to reduce pain. Consuming hot water may offer some internal pain relief, but it is important to note that heat can also exacerbate swelling.

6. Fighting colds and improving sinus health

Heat applied to the sinuses can alleviate pressure caused by colds and nasal allergies. Steam also helps unclog the sinuses.

Drinking hot water may help mucous move more quickly. This means that drinking hot water may encourage coughing and nose-blowing to be more productive.

7. Encouraging consumption of coffee and tea

Hot water mixed with tea or coffee may offer some additional health benefits.

When mixed with coffee or tea, hot water may offer additional health benefits. Coffee and caffeinated teas can dehydrate the body, especially at high doses, but they also offer some health benefits in moderation.

Research published in 2017 linked coffee consumption to a longer life. Other research has found a link between moderate coffee consumption and a reduced risk of Parkinson’s disease, some cancers, type 2 diabetes, some liver disease, and heart health problems.

Tea may reduce the risk of stroke, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and liver disease. Some studies have linked tea to a reduced risk of cancer, but the results vary.

8. Reduced stress

A soothing cup of hot water may help people manage stress and anxiety. An older study found that consumption of hot liquids, such as tea and coffee, could lower stress and reduce feelings of anxiety.

The study argues that some of the effects are due to caffeine, but that the warmth also played a role in the improved mood of participants.

Risks

hot drinks being served in a cafe

Drinking hot water from a covered cup may reduce the risk of being burned from a spillage.

The primary risk of drinking hot water is one of being burned. Water that feels pleasantly warm on the tip of a finger may still burn the tongue or throat. A person should avoid consuming water that is near boiling temperature, and they should always test a small sip before taking a gulp.

Drinking hot water in a covered, insulated cup can reduce the risk of spilling the water and getting burned.

Drinking caffeinated coffee or tea may cause a person to become overcaffeinated or jittery.

A person can prevent this by limiting the cups of coffee or tea they consume, or replacing caffeinated drinks with plain hot water.

The right temperature

Hot beverages, such as coffee or tea, are often served at near-boiling temperatures. It is not necessary for a person to risk a burn to gain the benefits of hot water. People who dislike hot water should consider drinking water at or slightly above body temperature.

A 2008 study reported an optimal drinking temperature of 136 °F (57.8°C) for coffee. This temperature reduced the risk of burns, but still offered the pleasant sensations of a hot drink.

Conclusion

Drinking hot water will not cure any diseases but, as long as the water is not scalding, the risks are minimal. So people who already enjoy hot water or who want to try a simple method for improving their health should feel assured that they are benefitting from it.

As more people adopt this health strategy, more research may become available.
